Libras is the law — Lei 10.436 of 2002, regulated by Decreto 5.626 in 2005. Brazil’s cinema rules already require Libras, captions and audio description: ANCINE’s Instrução Normativa 128 since 2016, and since January 2023 distributors must hand cinemas an accessible copy. Ask your cinema when.

Libras video — this story, in our language

A named Brazilian Deaf creator tells this page's story in Libras. The video is the page, and the text is its transcript's cousin. This video existing is the reason this page is allowed to exist.

Access in Brazil today

When we fight, Brazil's own courts agree with us.

When a public exam gave Deaf candidates only scraps of interpretation, the public prosecutor stopped the exam — and ordered it redone, fully in Libras.

When a Deaf worker was left isolated with no daily interpretation, the labour court called it what it was — hiring without inclusion — and made the company pay.

The law is ours. The delivery comes next — made by us. That is what ally is: Deaf and blind creators, paid to make the access — Libras, captions, audio description — delivered to any screen.

In plain words

The law is on your side. What is missing is the service — and that is what gets built here, with the community.
