About Salcedo Park (Jaime C. Velasquez Park)

Salcedo Village park, home of the Saturday market

Drawing the streets…

Salcedo Park, officially Jaime C. Velasquez Park, is a 0.7-hectare neighbourhood park in Salcedo Village, within barangay Bel-Air in the Makati Central Business District. It fills the block between Tordesillas and L.P. Leviste Streets, and between Toledo and Jaime C. Velasquez Streets, and is managed by the Makati Commercial Estate Association and Ayala Land. The park is named after Jaime C. Velasquez, a 1931 graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point, a Second World War veteran and a former director of Ayala Corporation, who was one of the people chiefly responsible for carrying out the development of Makati's business district. It is laid out around a grassy lawn, with a trellised walkway, stone benches and a children's playground. The park also holds a community centre, an office for the barangay tanod (the village watch) and a small satellite clinic with public restrooms. Since 2005 the park has been the site of the Salcedo Community Market, held every Saturday. It began with a small number of merchants and has grown to around 150 stalls. They sell organic produce, seafood, plants and prepared food from Filipino regional cooking and from many other cuisines. On market day the park is crowded.
