The National Library of the Philippines keeps a copy of the books published in the country. It also keeps old newspapers, maps and papers. It stands on T. M. Kalaw Avenue, at the edge of Rizal Park. The library holds the handwritten pages of Jose Rizal's two novels, Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo. It also holds Mi Ultimo Adios, the poem he wrote in his cell the night before he was killed. These are kept in a sealed case, in a room of their own. Most of the building is a working library. People come here to read and to study. You need to register at the desk to use the reading rooms. Bring identification. It is quiet inside. Bags usually have to be left at the entrance.
